Good Morning!
I noticed how happy I felt upon Awakening (haha) and how Connected. I thought a moment, and remembered Charan, Den, and I again kirtaned and meditated together in the Dome last evening. Den is getting pretty good on the tamboura (Father's Day gift) and we are preparing for our 24 hour Celebration of Guru Purnima this Friday from 6AM-Saturday 6AM with Core IV at Inshallah.
Just thinking about that has me gleeful in Anticipation. They say that any Spiritual effort made during that 24 hour period is compounded 1000 times. Whoopee! We will chant and meditate and Celebrate for the Lord and our Gurus, and then do it all again and again. Ah...to be sure, sleep is sweet indeed after Consciously spending 24 hours with the Beloved.
I heartily recommend you dedicate whatever time you can to your Spiritual Life during that most special 24 hours. It only comes once a year...and such a great Blessing! Sundari will be joining in during whatever time it is wherever she is in Europe that exactly matches our PST here.
Researching the Net, we found the following about Guru Purnima. If this interests you, please read on.
A guru is held in high esteem in our Hindu tradition. Guru is looked upon as an embodiment of God himself as it is due to his spiritual teachings and guidance one acquires knowledge. It is the Guru who leads one away from darkness or ignorance to light or wisdom.
Guru Purnima is the festival of spirituality, a day for celebration and worship, a day on which the disciples remember and express their gratitude to all the Gurus or Masters. Guru Purnima honors all the spiritual masters and Gurus. It is a special day in the year when the Guru is worshipped by every sincere disciple.
The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima. Also known as Vyas Purnima, the day is celebrated in the sacred memory and reverence to the great sage Ved Vyasa. He is the original Guru of the Hindu Dharma, who classified the four Vedas, wrote the eighteen Puranas and the great epic Mahabharata. On this Guru Purnima day spiritual aspirants and devotees perform Vyasa Puja and disciples worship their respective Gurus.
It is also a good time for spiritual ‘sadhana’ (intense spiritual practice) to turn within, and nature helps in doing that as it rains continuously! The monks, sadhus and saints who roam around the country in pilgrimage, regardless of where they are, stop wandering on the Guru Purnima day. They work hard; they do tapasya, spiritual practices, and austerities, to purify themselves. And they also study and contemplate on the scriptures written by Vyasa.
In the Mahabharata, each event contains the most profound teachings about Dharma, the path of goodness and love. So the devotees were so happy that they approached Veda Vyasa and asked him how to thank him, how to pay him for this treasure house of divine teachings called Mahabharata. So Vyasa told them that they would have one very special day every year to honor the Guru with gifts and festivities, and on this auspicious day, the Moon would be shining with full radiance. And he added: “On this day, any gift offered to the Guru with love and devotion would reach me.” This day was named Guru Purnima. The devotees were very pleased and ever since that day, they have celebrated the Guru Purnima with devotion to the spiritual Master. It is the most appropriate day to thank the Guru for his countless blessings.
It is said that of all the thirteen Full Moons in the year, Guru Purnima full moon is the most radiant, the most beautiful, the most brilliant and full. It is as perfect as a witness to the perfection that is the Guru. The Guru Purnima Full Moon achieves plenitude just as the Guru. Guru Purnima means full moon of Guru. The Guru is the Grace bestowing power of God. The Guru removes darkness (GU) and reveals the Light (RU).
On the full moon day, the Moon is in line with the Sun, the source of light, receiving from it all the light. And the Moon then showers this light upon the Earth. It gives out what it receives from the Sun. In the same way, the Guru is aligned with God, the fountain of light, receiving from Him all the light that, in turn, showers upon us, the devotees! It is the Light of the Shakti! (Spiritual power) The light of the great SELF! (Atman: divine Consciousness residing in the individual)
The glory of a guru is unfathomable. Just like the full moon dispels darkness and lights up the path of a wayfarer, so does the Guru remove the darkness of ignorance and enlightens the path of the spiritual seekers with his boundless knowledge.
Loving you always, k
